The Maltese breed comes from the central Mediterranean region, specifically the island of Malta for which they're named. Their story stretches back thousands of years, with evidence of these precious pups in ancient Egyptian, Greek, and Roman civilizations, where they were treasured as faithful companions to European nobility and royalty.
